CERTIFICATION
Certified home compostable to the Australian Standard AS 5810 by the Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA), where facilities exist.
AS 5810 certification confirms that products:
- Biodegrade during home composting
- Disintegrate within the composting process
- Leave no harmful residues in the finished compost
Products covered under this certification are independently verified by the ABA and listed under the relevant Certificate of Conformance.
Please refer to the product-specific certificate below for full certification details.
MATERIALS
Made with a PLA Lining
A PLA Lining is used to make containers waterproof, so that beverages and foods do not leech into the paper. This ensures the conatiner retains it's strength and shape.
PLA is a compostable bioplastic derived from plant sugars. PLA stands for polylactic acid. It can be made from any sugar, such as corn starch, cassava, sugar cane, or sugar beet.
Plants are milled to extract the starch, in the form of glucose. The glucose is then fermented to produce lactic acid. Next up, a chemical process transforms the lactic acid into a polymer, which can be made into pellets, known in the industry as resin.
Just like a conventional plastic resin, the PLA pellets can be used in a variety of ways – extruded into a sheet or film, injection moulded, cast into sheets, or spun into fibres. PLA has a huge range of applications.
PLA has a low melt point, so is best for cold use up to around 40ºC or 105ºF.
PLA lined products are suitable for composting.
Bamboo Paper/Card
Bamboo paper is manufactured by harvesting, cleaning, and breaking down bamboo fibers into pulp, which is then refined, pressed, and dried into sheets, creating a sustainable, commerical compostable alternative to wood-based paper.

Does PLA breakdown?
Does PLA breakdown?
PLA is
- Biodegradability: PLA breaks down into harmless substances within a relatively short timeframe, reducing landfill waste.
- Compostability: When properly processed, PLA can be composted, returning nutrients to the soil.
- Renewable Resource: Derived from renewable sources, PLA reduces dependence on fossil fuels.
- Sustainability: Consumers increasingly value eco-friendly products. PLA packaging can enhance brand perception and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.
- Safety: PLA is considered safe for food contact and meets regulatory standards.
